Welcome back to the Patient Attraction Podcast. I am Colin Receveur and we are going to spend the next two days talking about search engine optimization on mobile devices. Stay tuned.
– For many of you, drawing patients to you website is still a new and novel idea.
– If you are new to web marketing, what I am about to tell you is going to sound like next-level stuff.
– But intentionally designing your website to be used on a mobile device is not the future.
– It is not even the present.
– It is the past.
– 90 percent of Americans own a cell phone.
– 1/3 of those people use their phone as their primary access point to the Internet.
– Mobile local searches will overtake PC searches by next year, analysts say.
– So as you can see, your website had better look good on a phone or tablet.
– Google thinks so too.
– Your website can be punished in Google rankings if Google finds your mobile site to be “sub-optimal.”
– So, for instance, if some web design company has convinced you of the greatness of Flash, which phones can’t read, then you’ve likely just hurt your SEO.
– It’s about to get techie for a second.
– There are a couple of ways that your web developer can build your mobile site.
– The better way is HTML5 pages.
– Google can crawl these pages and index them.
– Then there are three ways that this website can be shown on mobile devices:
– Responsive design, which Google prefers
– Dynamic serving
– And building a separate mobile site
– There are pros and cons to each, and maybe we’ll get into that in another podcast.
– We recommend and use fully responsive design.
– But for now, the important thing for you to take away is that your website MUST be mobile responsive, not only for your SEO, but because potential patients will be using it to check you out.
