Explaining the Microsoft TrueSkill rating system – Rainbow Six Siege

I have completed a deep dive on the Microsoft TrueSkill algorithm that drives Rainbow Six Siege Ranked. It’s a system that has been around for over 10 years now and far surpasses the Elo and Glicko methods that many players think of when they think of Siege Ranked. But there are significant deficiencies in the way in which Siege uses the algorithm and the end result is that any given player’s rank actually says very little about his or her ability in game.
