This weeks pro tip is to use is to think of backlinks and social shares as a part of your negotiation process to help more people find you online.

Part of Google’s algorithm for ranking websites is the number and quality of links pointing to it. If your business is donating to a nonprofit or making an in-kind donation, consider getting back links as a part of your sponsorship or donation recognition.

Look for a partners or resources page to see where this might be a good idea.
Similarly, if you’re a nonprofit trying to raise sponsorship donations, consider the power of your website in the value that offers to other businesses when you give them a link.

EVERY business is interested in SEO, so when you tell them that a backlink from your website that will help their SEO, you’ll be amazed at how interested they’ll be. Include backlinks in your more expensive sponsorship packages to encourage businesses to upgrade their donation to the next tier.

A free tool for evaluating the power of the website is opensiteexplorer.org. You can entire in domain names to see how their link profiles and evaluate the power of their website. This can be helpful to you when deciding if it’s worth asking for a link.
